Das Kollektiv orangotango (2008 gegründet) beschäftigt sich mit Fragen zu Raum, Macht und Widerstand. Das Kollektiv beschreibt seine Tätigkeit als „emanzipatorische Bildungsarbeit“. Durch Workshops, Publikationen, Mappings, Exkursionen und kreative Interventionen werden (öffentliche) Räume neu gedacht und – ausgehend von der Basis – ein gesellschaftlicher Wandel initiiert. Zentrale Fragen, die das Kollektiv orangotango beschäftigen, sind: Wo gestalten wir Stadt mit? Wer entwirft Karten und für wen? Wo eigenen wir uns öffentliche Räume an? Aber auch: An welchen Orten fühlen wir uns unwohl?
Für die Ausstellung „Terra incognita – Fragen an die Erde“ veranstaltete orangotango im Lantz’schen Park einen zweitägigen Workshop mit dem Titel „Sozial-ökologisches Mapping einer Düsseldorfschen Uto/Dystopie“. Bei einem Picknick im Park wurde gemeinsam mit Akteur*innen aus der Umgebung die aktuelle sozial-ökologischen Situation in der Stadt Düsseldorf und insbesondere in Lohausen unter die Lupe genommen. Die Erfahrungsberichte Einzelner wurden erweitert durch eine akustische Session mit sphärischer Musik und Beschreibungen fiktiver Zukunftsszenarien, wobei der Park als eine der letzten verbleibenden Grünflächen der Erde begriffen wurde. Auf Basis der vorausführenden Gespräche und der fiktiven Szenarien entstand am Folgetag eine reale Öko-Karte einer „unbekannten Welt der sozial-ökologischen uto/dystopischen Zukunft Düsseldorfs“.
The collektiv orangotango (founded in 2008) is a collective that deals with questions of spatial structures, power relations, and resistance. It describes its activity as “emancipatory educational work”. In workshops, publications, cartography, excursions and creative interventions, (public) spaces are reconceived and social change is initiated from the grassroots. Key questions addressed by orangotango include: What aspects of urban planning can we participate in? Who are maps designed by – and who for? Where can we appropriate public spaces? Yet also: What are some of the places where we feel uneasy?
For the exhibition “Terra incognita – Questions for the Earth,” orangotango organized a two-day workshop in Lantz’scher Park entitled “Social-Ecological Mapping of a Düsseldorf Utopia/Dystopia.” During a picnic in the park, the current socio-ecological situation in the city of Düsseldorf and especially the borough of Lohausen was examined. Reports delivered by individuals were augmented by an acoustic session featuring spherical music and descriptions of fictitious future scenarios, in which the park was regarded as one of the few remaining green spaces on the planet. Based on the preceding discussions and the fictional scenarios, the next day, a real eco-map of an “unknown world of Düsseldorf’s socio-ecological utopian/dystopian future” was compiled.
