Im Werk von Gili Avissar (*1980 in Haifa, Israel, lebt in Haifa) verbinden sich verschiedene Disziplinen wie Malerei, Skulptur, Video, Performance und Tanz miteinander. Aus Stoffen, Seilen und anderen Materialien näht er archaisch anmutende Kostüme, in die er auch selbst hineinschlüpft, um sich immer wieder zu verwandeln.
Für den Lantz’schen Skulpturenpark hat er eine ausgreifende Kulisse aus farbreichen Textilen geschaffen, in der üppige Formen und fantasievolle Gestalten zwischen Menschen, Tieren und Pflanzen den Park bevölkern und aus dem Grün des Parks auftauchen, um eine märchenhafte Szenerie entstehen zu lassen.
Zur Eröffnung verwandelte sich Gili Avissar in einen Elefanten, um auf diese Weise existentielle Transformationsprozesse im Leben eines Menschen ebenso wie eine Verbundenheit mit der Natur zum Ausdruck bringen.
The work by Gili Avissar (born in Haifa, Israel, in 1980, lives in Haifa) combines various disciplines such as painting, sculpture, video, performance, and dance. He sews archaic-looking costumes out of fabric, rope, and other materials, and also dons them as he transforms himself again and again.
For Lantz Park, he has created an expansive backdrop of vibrantly colored textiles in which lush forms and imaginative figures – crosses between people, animals, and plants – populate the park or emerge from the greenery, creating scenes reminiscent of a fairytale.
For the opening, Gili Avissar transformed into an elephant to express existential transformation processes in a human life as well as a connection with nature.
